Program Overview
Capital Camps consists of four program villages for campers entering grades 3 through 12: Benjamin Village (grades 3-5), Reich Village (grades 6-7), Kaufmann Village (grade 8-9), Macks Village (grade 10), LIT Program (grade 11) and CIT Program (grade 12). The summer season consists of two sessions. The first session is four weeks in duration; the second session is three weeks long. Campers in grades 3-5 also have the option of a two-week ‘introductory’ program.
LIT Program
The Leaders in Training (LIT) program for rising 11th graders is designed to provide an intensive and engaging leadership program for young adults with leadership potential. In addition to the four weeks of in-camp training, the LITs participate in a 4-day Disneyworld experience. Why Disney? Quite simply, they are the best programmers out there and our participants will learn from the best. This team building experience will enable the participants to translate the theory behind Disney to camp. Following successful completion of the LIT program, participants will be encouraged to apply for the CIT program.
CIT Program
The Counselors in Training (CIT) program for rising 12th graders is an intensive four-week program for our oldest “campers” before joining our staff the following summer. CITs learn first-hand how to plan age-appropriate programs and spend time honing their leadership skills all in an engaging and realistic setting. The program includes an overseas community service trip to places such as El Salvador and Argentina.
Kesher
Kesher (Hebrew for “connection”) is a three-week adventure trip to Israel for Jewish teens entering 11th or 12th grade. The Kesher program combines hands-on touring, outdoor adventures, community service and opportunities to interact with Israeli teens all with an emphasis on exploring Jewish identity and leadership development. Contact the Capital Camps office for information of dates and pricing for summer 2010.
Atzma’im
From inception, Capital Camps has had an abiding commitment to the concept of ‘camp for all’. Our Atzma’im (Independence) program is designed to provide a meaningful immersive Jewish Camp experience for children with special needs. A shining jewel of our camp program, this fully inclusive option mainstreams campers into traditional cabins where they receive additional staff support to ensure their success. Our ADA compliant facility provides improved access for those with physical challenges, and our talented supervisory staff guide specially trained counselors to guarantee a superior experience. All new campers participate in a low-key pre-camp screening prior to formal registration to establish that the placement is appropriate and to set expectations that are realistic for each individual camper. We are proud that we are one of the few quality Jewish residential camps which offer this type of program which at present is available to rising 3rd through 10th grades. We truly believe that our entire community benefits from interacting with Atzma’im participants as we live, play, laugh and dream alongside one another. Please be in touch with us directly for more information.
Yotair / Rookie Camp
During five action-packed days, Yotair campers are introduced to the magic of Jewish overnight camp. Our ‘Yotair’ rookie-camp program is designed for rising second and third grade children who may be ready for camp a little earlier than their peers. All your child’s needs will be met as we immerse them in a world of new experiences from arts and crafts, swimming and sports, to our low ropes course and canoeing. Campers and counselors live in traditional cabins with a staff to camper ratio of 3:1. A large majority of Yotair campers return the following summer for a longer camp session.
